Dr. Tobin has taught in Austin since 1993, offering a personalized approach to each student's learning experience. He previously taught children at Kirby Hall School and Regents School of Austin, taught adults at USC, UT Austin, and Laredo Community College, and has conducted workshops for advanced students around the world. Dr. Tobin teaches with passion and conviction and genuinely strives to tailor an individual approach to each student's unique learning style, desire, and needs.
Dr. Tobin is an active Steinway Artist who performs regularly in Switzerland, France, Germany, the Netherlands, and Japan. He is one of few Americans to perform on Claude Debussy's Bluethner piano in Brive la Gaillarde France and completed two documentary films on Debussy. Dr. Tobin has been recognized internationally for his contributions to the performance and research on the piano music of Debussy. He continues to inspire musicians and scholars around the world with his work.
Dr. Tobin uniquely organizes master classes with expert teachers from Austin and universities throughout Texas, fostering a positive exchange of ideas and performance opportunities. In addition, Dr. Tobin, as an active performer, sponsors performances for students and encourages participation in festivals. He believes this exposure helps students grow professionally and artistically.
Dr. Tobin received the Steinway Top Teacher Award in 2016, 2018, and 2023 for his exceptional dedication to music education and mentoring young pianists. Dr. Tobin has degrees in piano from Eastman, USC, and UT Austin and is a member of Pi Kappa Lambda honor society.
